The Belgrade Botanical Garden, or Jevremovac, is one of the oldest and most cherished green spaces in Serbia’s capital. Established in 1873, it has served as both a sanctuary for plant lovers and an educational hub for future generations. To mark its monumental 150th anniversary, we were invited to create a cohesive branding system for a very broad TG. Rich history, diverse flora, tradition. These words inspired the next few months of the design process.
Step 1: Logo - The centerpiece of the entire branding campaign, that symbolizes the passage of time. The typography was chosen for its elegance and readability, ensured the logo is applicable in both digital and print.
Step 2: Colors - Whether visitors were interacting with the IG content, walking next to the Garden, or purchasing a postcard, they were immersed in a colourful and unexpected visual narrative. Purple makes you stop and look!
Step 3: Key Visual - We wanted something modern, fresh and sexy. Science doesn’t have to be boring! At the same time, this motif needed to be recognisable & scalable. We stylised the number 150 and played with different archive materials such as 100 year old handwritings, old stamps, and scanned copies of flowers from Garden’s collection.
Step 4: Creating a diverse range of materials for both online and offline use was the sweet part. We could finally touch our work — postcards, tote bags, coffee cups, leaflets, magnets, badges, wooden pencils and banners to name a few! On Instagram, we posted series of educational posts using masks that reveal only a certain portion of the visual. These shapes were inspired by those you can see in the Garden.
Step 5: Šira silka exhibition - One of the most significant contributions to the Jubilee was the creation of over 45 educational boards placed along Garden’s fence. These vibrant boards portrayed the rich history of the Garden, its most important plant collections, and the ongoing research and conservation efforts, showing never-before-seen historical materials. By bridging the old and the new, we helped in positioning Belgrade Botanical Garden as one of the city’s most important landmarks, make a lasting impression on all!
